The SCDM eSource Implementation Consortium is a key taskforce under the Innovation Committee, leading the way from Clinical Data Management to Clinical Data Science.  It’s a strategic taskforce and positions SCDM to be a thought leader in real-world eSource implementation.  We are proud to support this first of its kind Consortium!

The mission of this academic-industry Consortium is to agree upon standardization of clinical research data sets that will enable faster adoption of direct data transfers by academic sites and industry sponsors. We will implement this mission by leveraging existing clinical research HL7® Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR®) standards where available using real-life clinical trials and documenting our best practices and data transfer processes in Implementation Guides (IGs).

The Consortium’s vision is to share the IGs broadly with the goal to enable a faster and more efficient digital exchange of clinical research source data from academic medical sites to industry sponsors, through Electronic Health Records (EHR) to Electronic Data Capture (EDC) and Clinical Data Management Systems (CDMS).

The Consortium aspires to develop Data Exchange Specifications for core safety domains and various Therapeutic areas efficacy domains. The first key working group deliverable is to develop Local Lab Data Exchange Specifications. The Consortium has defined a common core data set using Logical Observation Identifiers Names and Codes (LOINC) standards and will operationalize data transfer from local labs using FHIR® APIs and JavaScript Object Notation (JSON).  The Consortium only works if companies are willing to try new data exchange processes with current clinical trials.  We need companies who are looking for the next generation data collection and are open to bringing ideas, trying new dataflows and learning from others.

If you and your company are interested in joining this exciting Consortium that has both technical and operational roles, please reach out to Sarah D’Angelo for more information on how your company can join SCDM for free and how you can get nominated to be a part of the future of eSource and EHR data exchange!
