The Webinar Committee is one of two programs of the SCDM Education Committee. The mission of the Webinar Committee is to deliver educational offerings that meet the special needs of clinical research professionals, especially Clinical Data Managers. There are two components to this mission:
- Provide the most up to date basic knowledge and skills for clinical research
- Present the most progressive ideas in development or in implementation in clinical research today
The webinars are presented in one hour followed by a half-hour question and answer period. This format provides an efficient mechanism to meet the educational needs of busy clinical research professionals. In addition, each webinar offers continuing education units (CEUs) after the successful completion of a post-webinar quiz.
Webinars are developed, with the participation of Webinar Committee members, through an initial content review followed by a dry run within a week of the actual webinar. Webinar Committee members have the opportunity to interact with other leaders in clinical research during these two reviews for each webinar. Also, this development process provides for discussions of some of the most progressive topics in clinical research today. Finally, the identification of webinar topics and presenters is accomplished through regular Webinar Committee meetings. Webinar Committee members are awarded CEUs for each year of participation. These CEUs can be used for partial fulfillment of the requirement for Certified Clinical Data Manager (CCDM) status.
In summary, the Webinar Committee is an excellent resource for clinical research professionals, especially Clinical Data Managers, to keep current with the most recent changes in clinical research. This applies to both webinar consumers and committee members. Clinical research, as the title implies, is one of the most dynamic and regulated professions which requires an active educational strategy.
